Auditing Internal audit system in Kerala depts. Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has directed that all departments of the State Government institutionalise a system of internal audit so that runaway spending can be reined in. Announcing this, an official spokesman said here that all departments have been asked to implement the system within a month's time. The heads of departments have been asked to get back to the Finance Ministry not later than February 29, 2004, informing it about the setting up of the internal audit system. The heads should further ensure that all types of accounting are subjected to strict auditing procedure. The audit report should reach the Internal Audit Cell (IAC) of the Department of Finance within two weeks of completing the formalities. The shortcomings listed in the audit report must be rectified or adequately taken care of within three months. The Internal Audit Cell should finalise the audit programme at least three months in advance and notify the Department of Finance, based on which the latter would conduct raids in the concerned departments.
