Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More than 95,000 cases of undervaluation of property have been settled as part of the ongoing compounding programme, according to an official spokesman.

The compounding facility was made applicable to the undervaluation cases registered till March 31, 2002. As per the scheme, defaulters were allowed to settle the cases by paying up 30 per cent of the stamp duty and registration fixed by the District Registrar.

Close to nine lakh cases of undervaluation have been detected in the State. The deadline for paying up compounding fees in respect of deeds registered up to March 31, 2002, and notified to the effect by the Registrar, has been extended till March 31, 2004.

Those who have received the Registrar's notice have been directed to contact the respective offices of the Sub-Registrar before March 31, failure to comply which would invite recovery proceedings, the spokesman quoted the Inspector-General (Registration) as saying.
