First Consulting lines up plans to move more work offshore

Vishwanath Kulkarni

Bangalore , Dec. 25

FIRST Consulting Group Inc, a US-based IT solutions provider for verticals such as healthcare, pharmaceutical and life sciences aims to double the headcount of its development centre in Bangalore even as it plans to move more work offshore in near future.

Mr Avinash Agrawal, Managing Director, FCG Software Services (India) Pvt Ltd, said the company expects to double its headcount by adding some 300 people more by end-2004.

FCG India currently has some 270 engineers of which about 100 are working for the clients of FCG Inc, while the rest 170 are catering to the clients of the erstwhile Paragon Solutions.

FCG acquired the US-based Paragon Solutions and its subsidiaries in India and Vietnam early this year. The Indian operation of Paragon was subsequently renamed as FCG Software Services India Pvt Ltd.

FGC Software India provides maintenance services to the parent's clients in the life sciences sector apart from contributing to the development of various modules for FCG's content management product.

"We are also developing several new features for the content management product targeted at the life sciences sector," Mr Agrawal said.

The company, which also provides infrastructure management services for US hospitals, would be looking at branching out into offering call centre and help desk services sometime in the second half of 2004, he said.

"Moreover, we are also looking at what best we can do to cater to the specific requirements of the US healthcare sector." FCG India is also looking at setting up practice centres for the telecom and healthcare verticals.
