Electronic exports post 200% growth in six years

EXPORT of electronic components from India has touched Rs 2,400 crore during 2002-03 as more multinational companies have outsourced components from the country, according to the Electronics and Computer Software Exports Promotion Council (ESC).

Between 1997-98 and 2002-03, electronic exports recorded a growth of 200 per cent. During this period, annual growth of the sector was around 25 per cent.

The European Union countries were the largest destination for electronic components, accounting for 42 per cent of the total exports, followed by Singapore and Hong Kong.

India exported components such as CD recordable, solar cells, colour picture tubes, unpopulated printed circuit boards and connecters, the ESC said.
