EEPC's Indiatech Fair in Brazil

THE recently concluded 4-day "Indiatech" Fair in Sao Paulo, Brazil, organised by the Engineering Exports Promotion Council (EEPC), has fetched spot orders worth $50 million for the exporters of engineering goods.

According to senior EEPC officials, at the India-specific engineering exhibition, as part of "Focus-LAC" programme initiated some years ago by the Ministry of Commerce, serious enquiries worth $25 million have been generated.

The exclusive engineering goods and technology fair is organised to explore the possibilities for engineering exports not only to Brazil but also to the entire Latin American region.

According to senior council members, feedback received from some 65 participants to the Expo has revealed that besides establishing as many as 416 new contacts, some 45 old contacts could also be revived.

Of the new contacts, according to sources, a sizeable number have been identified for appointment of agents and distributors. According to Mr R. Maitra, Secretary of the Council, a few participants have also found prospects of joint venture investments in Brazil.

He said the Expo has widened the scope for greater India-Brazil bilateral cooperation, paving the way for industrial cooperation at the entrepreneurial level in the engineering sector.

According to the Indian Ambassador to Brazil, Mr Amitava Tripathi, "Indiatech" would be regarded as a watershed development in trade relations between the two countries.

The level of Indian engineering exports to Brazil, now at $35 million, is expected to grow at 18 per cent annually during the next few years.
