"SKY is the limit in terms of opportunities in the IT arena," Mr Jayaramakrishnan, Vice-President, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), said.

Calling the students to grab the opportunity, Mr Jayaramakrishnan, who was addressing a technology seminar at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetam reiterated that there was no recession in the IT/service sector.

"It may be in the manufacturing industry, but definitely not IT," he said.

"The industry demand is so high that it would make one forget that he is a chemical or mechanical engineer. Technology is a tool. We need to understand and put it to use in our daily life," he explained.

IT outsourcing and business process outsourcing opportunities were becoming the order of the day, he said and pointed out that no organisation would have a special IT wing, when the whole concept of outsourcing was in place.

Despite contributing a mere one per cent to 1.5 per cent of the global software, India was still considered an IT superpower. There was a need to increase it.

"Think big and we can emerge bigger," he told the students.

He stressed the need for gearing up on hardware efforts.
