Merger of Ministries

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry has proposed the merger of the three Ministries of Steel, Coal & Mines and Petroleum into a single Ministry (Business Line, December 28). There may also be other Mnistries which may require such mergers.

This could bring down the number of Ministries and effect considerable savings in expenditure, while improving efficiency and showing the way to the States.

This may be the appropriate time for the Prime Ministerto implement these change without going in for inducting new ministers in the name of filling vacancies.
