ESS aims to earn more from exports

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 29

EASTERN Software Systems (ESS), a Delhi-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) software maker, has said it plans to increase its revenue from exports next year.

"At present, exports contribute about 25 per cent of our turnover. In 2004, this share should go up to 35 per cent or more," said Mr Anil Bakht, Chairman and Managing Director of ESS.

ESS, which sells the `ebizframe' ERP package, has got installations in African countries such as Kenya and Uganda. The company was now targeting Sri Lanka and Thailand for increasing exports, Mr Bakht said, adding that ESS would work with partners in these markets to sell and maintain the software.

"We are selling more than SAP in Africa. It is better to go to these markets than to the developed ones," he said. ESS' software is priced at Rs 3.5 lakh in India and mainly targets small and medium enterprises.

Mr Bakht said total revenues of ESS would rise to Rs 10 crore by end of this fiscal from Rs 7.5 crore last year and to about Rs 14 crore in the year thereafter as demand for ERP is on the rise in the country. Intel, Citibank and FMO have invested in ESS, one of the handful of Indian companies to focus on software products.
