New Delhi , Dec. 29

THE microwave link between BSNL and Sri Lanka Telecom has been recommissioned and is expected to strengthen the communication links between two countries and provide a platform for improving trade links.

This was announced by Mr Prithipal Singh, CMD, BSNL and Mr Shuei Anan, CEO, Sri Lanka Telecom, on Monday.

The system will operate on 7 GHz and provide bandwidth of 34 mbps (480 circuits).

It will provide frequency and space diversity in order to provide sufficient protection from reflection problems due to water surface between Rameswaram and Thalaimannar.

These circuits will automatically get extended to Madurai and Colombo since Madurai is already connected with Rameswaram and Thalaimannar with Colombo. The cost of this system, currently borne by BSNL, will be shared by both companies proportionately.
