Financial advice? Just dial 636

Our Bureau

Chennai , Dec. 29

AIRTEL'S Chennai subscribers can now get investment advice by dialling 636 anytime between 9.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on all weekdays. A tie-up between Cholamandalam Distribution Services, an investment advisory and wealth management company, and Airtel has made this possible.

The free service will enable an Airtel user to get advice on mutual funds, fixed deposits, IPOs and general insurance. The subscriber can also attend the events and seminars on personal finance organised by Cholamandalam Distribution.

Neither company will pay the other any commission or a fee. "Our main objective is to capture the minds of investors," Mr M. Anandan, Managing Director of Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Ltd, the parent company of Cholamandalam Distribution, told Business Line on Monday.

Cholamandalam intends to try this out in Chennai first, and then extend it to other cities as well.

At any point in time, Cholamandalam Distribution plans to have some seven people to handle the calls. This number can be increased — maybe with experts hired for this purpose — in case the number of calls increases.
