`Foodgrain target will be met'

THE Centre is confident of achieving the foodgrain target of 220 million tonnes during the current fiscal, the Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Mr Hukumdeo Narayan Yadav has said.

In a brief chat with newspersons, the Minister admitted that the monsoon was normal in most parts of the country. `Some regions have recorded excess rainfall. There were also reports of drought like situation in some other parts of the country as in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and parts of Maharashtra. The centre will be willing to help these states,' he added.
