Direct tax collections rise 22 pc

DIRECT tax collections up to December 22 touched a level of Rs 63,026 crore, which is about 65.95 per cent of the budgeted target of Rs 95,569 crore for fiscal 2003-04. This performance reflects a 22.03 per cent increase to the direct tax collection of Rs 51,647 crore recorded in the period April-December 22, 2002.

While corporation tax mop up for the period under review stood at Rs 37,091 crore (up about 29 per cent from previous year), income tax collection stood at Rs 25, 935 crore till December 22, 2003 (up 12.60 per cent).
