Tea futures to commence in Coimbatore by Feb-end

G.K. Nair

Kochi , Jan. 4

THE Upasi Commodity Exchange Ltd is to commence futures trading in tea by February-end and the formalities to this effect are being completed.

The exchange would function in Coimbatore because of the presence of administrative and other infrastructure such as online facilities, an Upasi source told Business Line here.

He said that the registered office of the exchange company is at Coonoor.

The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Upasi members here on Friday and it was decided to finalise the formalities soon so as to commence trading by next month-end with Coimbatore as the hub, he said.

Unlike other commodities, various factors are to be considered before commencing futures trading in tea and hence it has been delayed.

Now most of the issues had been sorted out, he added.
