Standards & Benchmarks ISO 14001 accreditation for PCS Industries plant Our Bureau
Mumbai , Jan. 6 PCS Industries Ltd, a part of the Rs 1,200-crore plus PCS group, on Tuesday announced that its manufacturing plant in Silvassa has been assessed and accredited with the ISO 14001 certification. According to an official release, the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certification, given by International Certification Ltd (ICL) of Australia/New Zealand, studied the company's waste emission and utilisation of waste resources for two months before awarding the ISO 14001certificate. The ICL study focused on PCS Industries's manufacturing processes, their use of raw materials and available natural resources. The ISO 14001 takes into consideration the company's policies towards protection of air, water, land, the environment and issues concerning it. The company's environmental policy and management system is integrated with its day-to-day functioning. For example, PCS has tie-ups with vendors who collect waste packing materials such as thermocol and disintegrate it in a biodegradable manner. Similarly, alkali is added to make the waste acid-free, and regular wastewater checks are carried out to maintain acceptable levels. To maintain decibel levels, diesel generators are kept in an isolated, sound-proof chamber. Mr B.N. Agarwal, Director, said: "ISO standards are accepted and implemented the world over. It is the benchmark for organisations to follow a safe, transparent and pollution-free business." PCS Industries is engaged in software development, hardware ranging from high-end servers to networking products, desktops and notebooks, and support services for software/hardware.
