SMALL and mid-sized companies face security threats like virus and intrusive spam mails similar to a large enterprise. Targeting this SMB segment, Trend Micro launched a range of security solutions on Tuesday.

A recent study conducted by the Internet security firm revealed that in the Indian context, 12 per cent of all e-mails accessed by Internet users contained virus and nearly 60 per cent of all mails received are junk mails.

According to Mr Niraj Kaushik, Country Sales Manager, Trend Micro, the SMB segment is vulnerable to security threats.

However, the companies are often not fully equipped to deal with the elusive virus and spam mail.

The new products would provide protection at the gateway, server and desktop level.

"The SMB security product suite is targeted at security management of desktop, server and gateway and Microsoft Exchange mail security. India is a fast growing market and we have enjoyed triple digit growth rate since we set up operations," said Mr Ralph Liu, Vice President (Asia Pacific).

Currently, the company's Indian operations contribute five per cent to the overall Asia Pacific revenues. With the launch of these new products, the company expects to see an increase in revenues.

SMBs with limited IT resources and having 25-500 seats would form the thrust of the new products launched by Trend Micro. The client/server suite for SMB offers protection for desktops and laptops and file and application servers against multiple security threats through a single integrated console.

The company's InterScan VirusWall for SMB 5.0 is an all-in-one gateway antivirus and content security solution designed to scan for threats on SMTP, HTTP and FTP streams.

"Also included is POP3 traffic scanning which helps ensure that networks are protected even when employees access their Internet e-mail accounts. Integrated anti-spam, e-mail content filtering and URL filtering will help increase employee productivity and ensure appropriate use of Internet resources," Mr Kaushik added.
