THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The role of industrial engineering was undergoing a sea change due to rapid development in technology and industrial environment, according to Dr Varghese Mathew, National Chairman, Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering.

Speaking here at a function where he was felicitated by the Thiruvananthapuram chapter of the Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering, Dr Mathew said the relevance of industrial engineering is likely to increase further in this age of liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation.

The function was organised at the College of Engineering here, according to Prof Suresh Subramoniam of the Thiruvananthapuram chapter. Gold medals were presented to rank holders - Mr Seju, Mr Ajish, Mr Jena and Ms Smitha - in industrial engineering from the University of Kerala.
