`It's performance vs energy'

Richa Mishra

New Delhi , Jan. 7

THE makers of the `Fast Forward Ice', Whirlpool of India Ltd, though positioned higher in the ladder for energy consumption as Korean major LG Electronics India, feel that "one cannot see energy as a stand-alone factor. There is a trade-off between performance versus energy."

Reacting to the findings of the VOICE survey, Mr Raj Jain, Managing Director, Whirlpool, said, "Besides, the faster the cooling capacity, the higher the energy consumption, but the duration of high level of consumption will be shorter compared to others. And any survey has to keep this factor in mind."

Elaborating further, Mr Jain, who is closely associated with energy efficiency measures being worked out by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), told Business Line, "Today there is no agreed standard measurement for energy efficiency and companies are adopting the available parameters."

In fact, BEE and Whirlpool have been working together towards it and norms are likely to be released in the next few months, he said. "With no current standards, it is difficult to judge the energy efficiency levels. We have nothing against such surveys but would definitely like to know what parameters were followed."
