Entertainment & Leisure Curzon Park in Kolkata to get new look Our Bureau
Kolkata , Jan. 8 THE Public Works Department of the West Bengal Government has been able to rope in two Singapore-based companies and a Kolkata-based infrastructure solution provider for development of the city's heritage hub Curzon Park. The park, located at the heart of the city will be projected as a "park-shopping-eating-hangout" destination. An MoU in this regard was signed here on Thursday in presence of the State's Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Nirupam Sen. The Singapore-based companies, namely Surbana International (consultancy) Pte Ltd and Sembcrop Engineers and Constructors Pte Ltd and the local company Pragati Growth and Development Ltd, will be responsible for master planning, architecture, designing, detailed engineering, procurement, feasibility, market research, raising resources, monitoring and selling of the Curzon Park project. The new look Curzon Park is expected to be ready within 24 months from the date of commencement of work. It will have a two-level basement parking for about 1,200 cars, a two-lakh sq.ft. two-level retail shopping mall selling ethnic ware as well as branded goods. This apart, the park will have undulating landscape acting as an open-air theatre for musical concerts and performing arts, illuminated water bodies and shelter sculpture to beautify the park. The adjacent bus terminus will also be renovated. While the estimated cost of the renovation job will be about Rs 50 crore, the entire work along with freedom to maintain and market the park project has been given to private companies. This is to send out a message to private investors that the Left Front Government in the State is keen to change the city's skyline and infrastructure with the help of independent professional agencies.
