Y.K. Modi is new FICCI President

AT the end of the 76th annual session of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Mr Yogendra K. Modi, took over as President of the Chamber for the year 2004-05. Mr Modi succeeds Dr A.C. Muthiah.
Mr Onkar S. Kanwar has become the Senior Vice-President of FICCI. Mr Kanwar is the Chairman of Apollo Tyres Ltd. The new face in the team is Mr Saroj K. Poddar, Chairman of Poddar Heritage Enterprises, who has been unanimously elected as Vice-President of FICCI. He was elected at the newly constituted Executive Committee of the chamber, which met on Thursday under the chairmanship of Mr Y.K. Modi.
Mr Poddar is the committee member of FICCI, past president of Indian Chamber of Commerce and President of All India Organisation of Employers (AIOE), according to a FICCI communique. He was also a member of the local board of Reserve Bank of India. Mr Poddar has served on the board of governors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
Under Mr Poddar, the group has promoted various new projects including several joint ventures with leading international corporations such as Gillette India Pvt Ltd. Mr Poddar is the Chairman of Alstom Group of Companies. This includes Alstom Ltd and Alstom (India) Ltd. He is also the Chairman of Singer India Ltd, a subsidiary of the Singer Company of the US.
