Telecommunications CDMA products: Surana Tele in MTNL shortlist V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad , Jan. 11 SURANA Telecom Ltd, the Hyderabad-based telecom products company, which recently forayed into CDMA (code division multiple access) products, has emerged the lowest bidder in the Rs 30 crore order for the supply of fixed wireless telephones. The Managing Director of Surana Telecom, Mr Narender Surana, told Business Line, that the company has been short-listed by MTNL wherein the other bidders are ITI and HFCL. The CDMA fixed line project entails supply of 40,000 fixed wireless sets. The company had recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chinese major, Huawei Technologies. Surana Telecom, which is predominantly into manufacture and supply of jelly filled cables, optical fibre cables and testing equipments and jointing kits, had earlier this year teamed up with LG, Korea for executing an order for supply of fixed wireless terminal of 3G (Third Generation) 1X technology. Subsequently, to broaden the portfolio of products, the company had teamed up with Huawei Technologies wherein the latter would provide Surana Telecom with technology to manufacture and assemble and test CDMA 1X integrated fixed wireless terminals at the Surana's plant in Hyderabad. This arrangement includes maintenance and support for the tendered terminals. As per this arrangement, while Surana would submit proposals for Indian bids to execute the tender, Huawei would provide the necessary support as per the tender arrangements, he said. Consequently, both the companies would take up collaborative work and participate in tendering process and, thereafter, assemble the necessary equipment in India. The MoU is for a period of 36 months.
