Outlook Kodak bullish on healthcare imaging V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad , Jan. 11 EASTMAN Kodak Company, an imaging solutions provider with $2.27 billion in revenues, is upbeat on India. It plans to reach its digital imaging solutions for the healthcare sector while continuing to scout for strategic acquisitions, particularly in the related technology areas. The Chief Operating Officer of Eastman Kodak Company, Health Imaging, Ms Candy M. Obourn, told Business Line that the company planned to increase its presence in the Indian digital health imaging applications and continued to eye strategic acquisitions across the globe, including India. Kodak's Health Imaging group is a leading player in intelligent imaging products both analog and digital. Its portfolio includes computed radiography and digital radiography, laser systems, picture archiving and communication systems. With new areas of applications such as dental imaging, the company planned to broaden the services, she explained. Globally, the health care imaging system is amongst the fastest growing in the imaging applications space, recording over two-digit growth. This means, the market has areas that need special thrust. For instance, as a company, "We have chosen the year 2004 as the Year of India, where Kodak as a corporation plans to expand operations both in terms of market reach as also improved technology capabilities with partners". "As a part of this move, we see investments in the form of more service centres and more technology centres that will enable the company offer a broader range of services. We have chosen India and China as two big growth markets and plan to lay special marketing thrust on these two countries where there is substantial scope to expand the market," she said. "Currently, Kodak is engaged in software development work and related applications out of India. We expect this to be a larger business as we go along providing support for our global requirements. This could mean expanding to other applications in the health care environment . While we do not see replicating what technology companies provide, we will be able to broaden the scope by enhancing the products and services range," Ms Obourn said.
