Events Kochi to host global buyer-seller meet Our Bureau
Mumbai , Jan. 12 THE Department of Industries, Kerala, is organising an international buyer-seller meet B2B Kerala 2004 to showcase the manufacturing capabilities of the State in 10 select areas. The meet is being organised in Kochi from February 19-21. The event will bring the buyers face-to-face with entrepreneurs in the business of coir, handloom, handicrafts, processed foods and spices, chemicals, electrical and electronics, ayurveda, wood-based products and rubber. This meet is aimed at boosting trade deals rather than inviting investment into these businesses, Mr P.K. Kunhalikutty, Kerala Minister for Industries and IT, said. The other organisers of the meet are the Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion ((K-Bip), Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd and the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation. "We are bringing small entrepreneurs from all the 14 districts of the State for this meet,'' Mr V. Rajagopal, General Manager, K-Bip, said. According to Mr P.H. Kurian, Secretary, Department of Industries, Kerala has an inherent advantage in the fact that it is strategically located to the international shipping line. "The Kochi port is about 12 km from the Pacific Rim route,'' he said, pointing this is an advantage to the trade community looking globally. So far, 250 participants have registered for the event. According to Mr Kurian, 15 foreign embassies have enrolled for participation, notable among them being the Netherlands embassy.
