Restructuring PepsiCo India on revamp mode Ratna Bhushan
New Delhi , Jan. 12 SOFT drink major, PepsiCo India, is undertaking an organisational restructuring exercise, with the objective of consolidating operations and tightening management control further. As part of the organisational revamp exercise, Mr Tanmaya Vats, who was head of the North Market Unit of PepsiCo, has now been appointed as Executive Director, Market Operations, India. Under the new hierarchy, the company's four regional heads of operation - Mr Satendra Aggarwal (heading northern region operations), Mr Venkat Shankar (in-charge of the eastern region), Mr Praveen Someshwar (head, western region), and Mr Saurabh Gupta in-charge of the central market unit, will report to Mr Vats. Mr Vats, in turn, will report to Mr Rajeev Bakshi, Chairman, PepsiCo. Interestingly, no change has been implemented in the south market unit. When contacted by Business Line, the company spokesperson confirmed this development, though he declined to elaborate on the same. An internal announcement has already been made in this regard, early last week. In recent months, the company has seen a couple of high-profile exits, including Mr Vijay Subramaniam, Executive Vice-President and Mr Jaswant Nair, Executive Director - Human Resources. PepsiCo had created independent five market unit heads in late 2002 in the north, south, east, west and central regions, and each market unit had been appointed a separate director. This revamp exercise had been aimed at bringing both the company owned bottling operations and the franchisee-owned bottling operations, under the same control parameters.
