New Projects GNCL to set up lam coke plant at Kandla Our Bureau
Kolkata , Jan. 13 GUJARAT NRE Coke Ltd (GNCL) has firmed up a Rs 50-crore investment plan to set up a green-field lam coke manufacturing plant at Kandla in Gujarat. The proposed project, which will be the company's second plant in the State, is expected to begin production within the current fiscal. The capacity addition will help the company double its production capacity from 3.97 lakh tonne to 7.21 lakh tonne per annum. According to GNCL source, this port-based plant will not only help it reap the favourable location advantage, but will also open up the "hungry" North Indian market to the company's products because of its excellent rail-road connectivity. The second plant will use imported coal from Australia. Considering China's "insatiable" demand for more of coke and the global shift of steel making facilities from the developed to the developing countries and the less developed countries, it is expected that the demand for coke will grow in India in the near future. Hence the company will reap the benefit. It is stated that the production from the second plant, along with that of the merged sister concern Aparna Projects will ensure that GNCL retains its supremacy as the largest lam coke manufacturer in the non-captive sector in the country. Incidentally, GNCL is the only stock exchange listed company in this segment of industry.
