ON the eve of elections, the Health Minister, Ms Sushma Swaraj, has announced a month-long health meal under the `Swasthya Jagrukta Maah' commencing from January 15. Under the plan, health melas would be organised in all the constituencies and the services would involve programmes for control of tuberculosis, malaria, blindness, leprosy, cancer, HIV/AIDS apart from maternal health, child health, immunisation and family planning.

Simultaneously, in a bid to control infant mortality, a programme called Vande Mataram has been launched wherein trained gynaecologists would render free service once a month.
