Thiruvananthapuram , Jan.14

THE State Government has effected changes in the calendar for the Budget Session of the State Assembly 2004-05 in view of the move to advance the Lok Sabha elections.

As per the revised schedule, the Finance Minister, Mr K. Sankaranarayanan, will present the State Budget on January 23, followed by a vote-on-account for Government expenses for the first quarter of the new financial year.

The Government had earlier announced that the full budget for the year would be passed before March 31, in a break with the past.

Briefing newspersons here on the change in schedule decided earlier by a routine Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, said that the session would begin on Thursday with the Governor's Address.

Originally scheduled to last till April 7, the session is likely to be cut short in view of the Lok Sabha polls, he added.
