`Clean Kerala' campaign

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Minister, Mr A. K. Antony, has called for concerted efforts from all people to ring in a "clean Kerala".

Addressing a function convened as part of popularising the Clean Kerala programme, Mr Antony said here that the so-called God's Own Country had been reduced to a spitting image of itself, with even the premises of places of worship not spared. This had also created a situation where contagious diseases such as dengue fever and encephalitis reared their heads at increasingly frequent intervals. This called for remedial measures, which, unless initiated on a war footing would have disastrous consequences for public health.

Among those who were present on the occasion were the Minister for Local Administration, Mr Cherkalam Abdulla, the Education Minister, Mr Nalakath Soopy, the Tourism Minister, Prof K. V. Thomas, Thiruvananthapuram City Mayor, Prof J. Chandra, and Mr V. S. Sivakumar M.P.
