Hero Honda Q3 net rises 33 pc; to pay 500% special interim

HERO Honda Motors Ltd, the country's largest two-wheeler maker, today said its net profit for the third quarter of the fiscal rose by 33 per cent on robust sales and income from other operations.

Net profit of the company stood at Rs 203 crore for the quarter-ended December 2003 over Rs 153 crore in the same period a year ago. Sales in the period increased by 27 per cent to 5.72 lakh bikes from 4.52 lakh units.

Sales rose 14.5 per cent to Rs 1,581 crore, up from Rs 1,376 crore a year ago. Other income in the quarter went up to Rs 44.48 crore (Rs 21 crore).

Buoyed by the growth, it has announced a special interim dividend of 500 per cent or Rs 10 per share.

For the nine-month period, Hero Honda earned a net profit of Rs 517 crore, up by 20 per cent from Rs 432 crore in April-December 2002. Turnover in the period went up by 8 per cent to Rs 4,273 crore (Rs 3,946 crore).

Sales during the nine-month period stood at 14.77 lakh units over 12.81 lakh a year ago.
