Health Three TV health shows to be showcased at UN meet on AIDS Our Bureau
New Delhi , Jan. 14 TELEVISION health programmes Kalyani, Jasoos Vijay and Haath Se Haath Mila currently on Doordarshan will be showcased at the United Nations meet with global media leaders to combat HIV/AIDS. The Prasar Bharati CEO, Mr K.S. Sarma, is expected to speak at the roundtable hosted by the UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, and co-chaired by UNAIDS and Kaiser Family Foundation and make a presentation on Kalyani with other shows being talked about. According to Prasar Bharati officials Kalyani deals with a whole range of diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and is being aired in six regional kendras. The other two programmes co-produced by BBC World Trust and NACO take up the specific issue of HIV/AIDS. The meeting, to be held in New York on Thursday, will have over 20 world media leaders and will discuss ways in which the media can use resources to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and also leverage broader support for global fight against AIDS. Some of the key participants are Mr Mark Byford, Deputy Director General, BBC, Mr Bill Gates of Microsoft, Mr Peter Matlare, Group CEO, South African Broadacsting Corporation, Mr Bill Roedy, President MTV Networks, Mr K.S. Sarma, Chief Executive, Prasar Bharati, Mr Zhao Hua Yong, President China Central Television and some others.
