Child labour project in 50 more districts

New Delhi , Jan. 14

THE Government has set a deadline to eliminate child labour in Delhi by the end of this year, and from the country by 2007.

This was stated by the Union Labour Minister, Mr Sahib Singh Verma, at the launch of the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) in 50 more districts.

NCLP had been launched earlier in 100 districts across the country and it will be extended to another 100 districts during the course of the Tenth Plan taking the total to 250, Mr Verma

The Minister launched the NCLP today along with the Director General of the International Labour Organisation, Dr Juan Somavia.

During the Tenth Plan, a sum of Rs 602 crore has been sanctioned for the NCLP, much higher than Rs 249 crore sanctioned during the Ninth Plan.
