MR Krishna Raj, Editor of the Economic and Political Weekly, passed away in his sleep on Friday night.

According to his family members, Mr Raj, 67, was keeping normal health and had attended office on Friday.

Mr Raj took over as editor of the weekly, widely known as EPW, in 1968.

One of the most perceptive economic editors in the country, Mr Raj had the reputation as one who understood the country's economic problems. He interacted with a wide range of economists like Mr K.N. Raj, and Mr I.G. Patel. Under his editorship, the weekly EPW gained the reputation for deep analysis and thought provoking discussions on economic, political and social issues facing the country. Although the weekly did not gain big circulation, the publication was accepted, particularly in universities abroad, as one of the authoritative economic journals coming out of India.
