Non-resident Indians

This is with reference to "Not Required in India?" (Business Line, January 19). It is good that India is finally recognising the services of important non-resident Indians. Many Indians had made a mark abroad even earlier, but it is only now that the Government is honouring them. It is a case of better late than never.

As mentioned in the article, the non-resident Indians have made a mark not only by their global achievements but also by their advice. Also, the fact that 20 million Indians stay abroad and earn their living there augurs well for the economy. Also, the fear of brain drain seems exaggerated and sees the reverse happening.

One hopes that the Centre organises many more such Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas celebrations.
