Events South Asia Business Forum to focus on trade promotion Our Bureau
New Delhi , Jan. 19 THE second South Asia Business Forum (SABF) meeting scheduled to be held in Bangladesh on January 22 shall deliberate upon the crucial issues of promoting trade and investment in the South-Asia Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) region, management development and institutional building, cross border private sector cooperation in information and communication technology in the region. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) President, Mr Y.K. Modi, feels that SABF is an appropriate platform for addressing the sub-region's socio-economic problems. "We feel that integration of local economies, endowments, manpower, infrastructure would lead to efficient utilisation of economic resources," he said. With the vast and porous borders much informal trade has been happening in this South Asian sub-region. While these may have initially been confined within short distances, nearby and surrounding communities, they have expanded and enveloped the region. The FICCI would be voicing its concern on the increasing informal trade in the South Asia Sub Region, he said. Mr Modi and Mr S.N. Menon, Special Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, would be leaving for Dhaka for participating in the Third Meeting of Trade, Investment and Private Sector Working Group (TIPWG) of SASEC scheduled to be held on January 21.
