KCCI plea on iron ore exports

Our Bureau

Mangalore , Jan. 19

THE Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has asked the Karnataka Government to intervene and ensure smooth operations of iron ore exports from New Mangalore Port by trucks till broad gauge conversion of the Mangalore-Sakleshpur railway line is over.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Mr B.S. Patil, the copies of which were released to the press here on Monday, the KCCI President, Mr R.D. Kini, said that though a dedicated railway line between the loading point at the mines and the destination at the port is required for the smooth operation of iron ore export, the early completion of the broad gauge conversion of Mangalore-Sakleshpur railway line would help in this regard. At present, iron ore is transported from the hinterland by trucks.
