Announcements TVS Motor working on Victor variants Our Bureau
Pune , Jan. 20 TVS Motor Company said here on Tuesday it expects to touch the 1 million mark in motorcycle sales in fiscal 2004-05. The company is also working on a number of variants of its Victor model in the next fiscal, Mr R. Chandramouli, Vice-President, (Sales & Marketing), told reporters at a press conference here. The company, which delivered the first hundred units of its new 100 cc motorcycle, Centra, with patented VT-I (variable timing intelligent engines) technology to customers in Pune, will focus largely on the executive segment which is where much of the demand for motorcycles is, Mr Chandramouli said adding, however, that it would also introduce models in the premium segment. "In fiscal 2004-05, we are also planning some launches in the Fiero segment,'' he said. Mr Chandramouli said the Centra, with its great fuel economy positioning will fuel significant growth for the business with almost 3,00,000 units expected to be sold in the next financial year. While the company now has a 17 per cent share of the motorcycle market, the Centra will take it to 20 per cent in fiscal 2004-05, he said. The company's motorcycle sales in 2003-04 will touch 7,40,000 units. Replying to a specific query, Mr Chandramouli admitted that the Centra, which is positioned as the "fill it once a month '' bike at Rs 36,990 is likely to poach into its existing models because of the superior value proposition but said, "in the long run, it is good for our growth.'' He said the company is now preparing to gradually extend the new technology engine into its other vehicles.
