Gender NCW to discuss sexual harassment Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Jan. 21 HOW far have the guidelines and norms laid down by the Supreme Court of India with regard to prevention and dealing with sexual harassment of women at workplaces in India being put into practise? In its efforts to find out the implementation feedback, the National Commission for Women, a statutory and autonomous body under the Government of India will be holding a meeting in Hyderabad on January 24 at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI). The NCW, set up to secure justice for women, safeguard their rights and promote empowerment has widely circulated the guidelines and norms prescribed by the Apex Court, which are contained in the Visakha judgement. The Supreme Court had in a landmark judgement in the matter of Visakha vs. the State of Rajasthan in 1997 held that sexual harassment of women at the workplace is against their dignity and violates several articles of the Constitution of India. The NCW has been holding meetings with various organisations, Government departments and representa- tives of civil society.
