New Projects GOCL Hyderabad unit to reopen today Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Jan. 22 THE Hyderabad Factory of Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd (GOCL), which was shut down following a blast on November 26, 2003, will reopen tomorrow. GOCL has decided to restart activities at the Indian Detonators Ltd (IDL), the Kukatpally unit in phases. Initially, essential staff from the safety and maintenance groups will resume duties on January 23 and after a full safety check of all machinery and equipment, the production departments would be restarted, according to a company press release. The Department of Explosives, Government of India, and the Directorate of Factories and the Fire Services Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh, have given their okay for the resumption of operations, the release stated. The IDL unit suffered heavy damage, after a solid explosion rocked the detonating fuse plant in the afternoon of November 25 and also claimed the lives of seven employees and injured a few more who were on shift duty. In a statement, the Managing Director of GOCL, Mr S. Pramanik said separate notices would be issued by the company regarding the resumption of the specific production departments. About 1400 employees are engaged in various production facilities at the unit. The resolution of several issues following the accident could be resolved within two months due to the active intervention of the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu and the various departments like labour, forensic, fire services, environment and the Collector of Ranga Reddy district and the Director of Factories, State and Explosives Department of the Centre, he said.
