DSP Merrill Lynch has topped the merger and acquisition league table 2003, according to the annual survey of corporate finance deals in India, conducted by India Advisory Partners.

The 16 deals handled by the company are valued at Rs 2,918 crore, according to a press release.

ICICI Securities is second with 14 deals valued at Rs 2,458 crore and JM Morgan Stanley stands third with 10 deals valued at Rs 1,647 crore.

Mr Rajeev Gupta, co-Head Investment Banking and M&A, DSP Merrill Lynch, said that 2003 had been significant in terms of complexity and nature of deals, which indicates a structural deepening of the M&A landscape, despite the fact that deal size has reduced.

Indian Advisory Partnersforecasts that 2004 is likely to be a good year for investment bankers as the cement, telecom and banking sectors consolidate further and Indian companies continue investing overseas.
