APAS plans overseas chapters

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences (APAS) is planning to open overseas chapters soon. The first of the chapters is likely to come up in the US by March, according to Dr K.V. Raghavan, President of APAS. and former Director of Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT).

Addressing presspersons here on the sidelines of the annual convention of APAS, he said some non-resident Indians (NRIs), who might become fellows of the akademi, would act as nucleus to start the chapter. The US would have five to six chapters. "We are not going to open chapters just for the sake of it. Each chapters would have 20-25 members, each having good credentials to become APAS fellows," he said.

APAS is also looking at Germany, France and the UK for opening the overseas chapters. At present, the akademi has about 300 fellows, 35 associate fellows and 22 institutional members.
