THE six-week-old strike by 11,000 junior doctors in the State has been called off, with the striking doctors agreeing to the High Court's suggestion to form a committee to look into the issues raised by them.
"We have decided to call off the strike as per the High Court suggestion," Mr Suresh Kumar, Convenor of the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (APJUDA), told Business Line.
The junior doctors had launched the strike demanding that the State Government withdraw the "anti-people policies" in the health sector.
Their ire was particularly against collecting user charges and privatisation of medical education. "The committee will be headed by Mr Justice (Retd) Jeevan Reddy. Two representatives each from the Government and APJUDA would also be the members."
Dr R, Sasiprabha, Director of Medical Education, said the Government would withdraw the show-cause notices served on some junior doctors.
She said the names of the representatives would be finalised by Tuesday.
