Stress on value addition of coir products

Our Correspondent

Madurai , Jan. 25

MASS production of coir products with value addition and cheaper selling price would help coconut growers get better price for their produce, said Mr R.B. Syam Sundar, Vice-President, Coir Board, at a seminar on coconut and coir products, held at Theni, near here.

Speaking at the seminar, he said, as it would be difficult to produce on large-scale and make value addition, the coconut growers should form a cooperative federation as the domestic and global markets for coir products has been steadily growing.

While the market potential is estimated to be around Rs 2,000-3,000 crore, the sale of coir products has been around Rs 1,400 crore and exports around Rs 400 crore only.
