Software Corporate - New Projects BMC Soft opens global data centre at Pune facility Our Bureau
Pune , Jan. 26 BMC Software, which began its Indian operations in 2001, has opened global data centre at its facility in Pune. Mr Jay Gardner, Chief Information Officer, BMC Software, told newspersons that the data centre, housed in a 5,500-sq. ft facility would be able to host more than 1,200 servers. The total investment in the facility would be close to $1 million , he said. He said BMC was planning to shift its Performance Scalability and Reliability Lab to the data centre. Currently, about 70 servers are involved in this lab facility across the US and these servers would be brought to the Pune centre, he said. Presently, once a software programme is developed, it is taken to any of these servers in the US for testing the performance, reliability and scalability. "With this data centre in place in Pune, everything would be carried out under one roof," he said. The data centre is expected to become operational by the first quarter of fiscal 2004-05. Mr Gardner said BMC Software India would also shortly integrate Magic Solutions' research and development centre in Bangalore into its Indian operations. This is a follow-up of the recent global acquisition of Magic Solutions by BMC Software. BMC, player in the enterprise management, is acquiring the assets of Magic Solutions from Network Associates for approximately $47 million in cash. It may be recalled that BMC had acquired Remedy Service Management Solutions in November 2002, which has products such as helpdesk, asset management and customer support. "
