Castor oil meet to discuss key issues

Mumbai Jan. 26

WHILE global castor oil production has stagnated at around 4.5 lakh tonnes a year for some time now, the end-users are constantly looking for the opportunity to shift to cheaper, steady-priced and more easily accessible alternatives.

As a dominant producer and exporter of castor oil, India has to play a vital leading role in rejuvenating the future of castor business and create conducive trading conditions in India and abroad to expand the utilisation of castor oil and its derivatives.

It is in this context that an international conference on castor seed, castor oil and its derivatives, including value-added products has been organised by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) in Ahmedabad on February 8.

Market trends, demand-supply, growth opportunities, hedging and risk management in castor business, and price outlook for 2004 are some of the key topics that will be discussed by experts.

About 300 delegates including officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Technology Mission on Oilseeds and the State Government, apart from experts drawn from the industry and trade from within the country and outside would participate, SEA said.
