`Ease paddy procurement norms'

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: The paddy procurement norms must be relaxed by the State Government, the Federation of Farmers Associations in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts, has urged.

According to Mr Arupathi Kalyanam, Secretary of the Federation, the price of paddy in the open market has registered a steep fall and the procurement by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) has been less this time.

The prices quoted by the traders for ADT 38 and ADT 42 varieties have been around Rs 250 to Rs 270, while they should be around Rs 350.

A reasonable price in the open market could not be fetched as traders pointed out the produce as rejects by TNCSC, despite a reasonably good quality.
