Rashtriya Ispat to launch AIDS awareness drive

THE Visakhapatnam steel plant (Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd) has drawn up a plan to organise health camps to make people aware of the perils of AIDS and the preventive measures during the current year, says a press release issued by the company.

Health camps will be conducted in schools, community centres and other places to educate students, youths and other sections of society.

During 1992 to 2003, the plant has spent Rs 53.98 lakh on basic civic amenities in the neighbourhood, Rs 84.70 lakh on education, Rs 6 lakh on health and Rs 28 lakh on welfare activities.

Besides, the plant has awarded contracts worth Rs 4.31 crore to those who have been displaced by the plant. Vocation training has been provided to 582 women and 46 youths, adds the release.
