Mr S. Yazaki, President of Yazaki Corporation, talks to the media in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. - K.R. Deepak
Visakhapatnam , Jan. 28 YAZAKI Corporation, a Japanese major exporting auto components, is planning to set up a 100 per cent export-oriented unit (EOU) in the country and Vizag is one of the places being considered for the purpose. This was stated by Mr Shinji Yazaki, President of the $10-billion dollar company, in the Visakhapatnam special economic zone at Duvvada near here on Wednesday. Mr Yazaki was speaking to newspersons after visiting the site shown by the VSEZ authorities for setting up the proposed unit. He was accompanied by the Development Commissioner of VSEZ, Mr Ramesh Kumar. Earlier, he held discussions with the officials of Visakhapatnam port and others. Mr Yazaki said, "India is a very important place for us and we are seeking to expand our operations in the country. We have a manufacturing unit at Pune to meet the requirements of the Indian market and to export a part of the output there. But we want to have a 100 per cent EOU.'' He said the turnover of the Pune unit amounted to Rs 85 crore and exports accounted for 30 per cent of it. He said skilled labour was available in India and the corporation would be able to supply auto components at competitive prices. To a specific query on whether or not the corporation would set up the unit, he said he could not commit himself at this juncture, but after considering other centres and studying the whole issue, "a decision may be arrived at in three months or so.'' Mr Ramesh Kumar said the VSEZ would extend all co-operation to Mr Yazaki for setting up the unit and he expressed the hope that it might take shape soon.
