TRS rules out poll alliance with Congress

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Jan. 28

ENDING a two-month long speculation, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Wednesday announced that it would not have any truck with the Congress (I) in the forthcoming elections to the State Assembly and Lok Sabha.

Announcing this at a press conference here, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, President of TRS, flayed the Congress for not spelling its stand on granting Statehood to Telangana. "The Congress has failed to respond to our demand for a separate State," he criticised.

"We don't want to waste time any more. We have to prepare our cadre for the ensuing elections. And hence, we have decided to go it alone," Mr Rao said. He, however, said his party would discuss if the Congress came forward with a fresh proposal.

He has announced a schedule for receiving and finalising the candidates. "We will receive applications for three days beginning February 3.

About 20 teams will tour all the constituencies in the region to finalise the prospective candidates. These teams will submit a report on February 8 to party's election, which, in turn, will submit a list to him on February15," he added.
