Infrastructure Delhi School of Planning to make master plan for Kochi Our Bureau
Kochi , Jan. 29 KOCHI Corporation has entrusted the Delhi-based School of Planning and Architecture with the task of preparing a master plan for the development of the Kochi city. There was a long pending demand from urban planners to prepare a master plan for Kochi as the city was facing the hazards of uncontrolled and haphazard development. All that the city has is a master plan prepared some three decades ago covering the areas that now come under Greater Cochin Development Authority. There were also complaints that the fixing of various zones in the city was not done in a scientific manner. The areas near the High Court, Edappally and Ponekkara, which are residential areas, are currently in the industrial zone. As per the regulations in force, two-storied buildings are not permitted in holdings with a total area of four cents. There are a few other obsolete regulations that need to be modified in tune with the changing needs of the city with a futuristic approach, corporation officials said. The creation of master plan will also streamline various activities in the city including the construction of buildings, industrial and commercial units and setting up of hoardings in the city. According to officials, the scientific data generated during the preparation of vision document, environment seminars and the heritage conservation series will be handed over to the School for preparation of the master plan.
