Hyderabad , Jan. 29

ALLAYING fears over the spread of bird flu into India, a leading player in the poultry sector Venkateswara Hatcheries said on Wednesday that the poultry industry and the national laboratories are fully geared to prevent this disease, even in the unlikely event of it being detected.

Apart from sound facilities in the private sector, various Government labs like the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar, HDSL, Bhopal, National Institute of Communicable Disease and National Institute of Virology, Pune have world-class testing and diagnostic facilities.

"Even the Pakistani poultry industry is at least three decades behind us. They do not have the kind of disease investigation and control mechanisms available in India. Moreover over 80 per cent of poultry production takes place in backyard farms under unhygienic conditions," the release added.
