Oracle Warehouse tool with radio tags

Raja Simhan T.E.

San Diego , Jan. 29

THE next version of Oracle Warehouse Management software will include the new radio frequency identification (RFID).

This would help suppliers comply with the recent mandate from Wal-Mart, one of the largest retail chain stores in the US, and the US Department of Defence. There are a number of Indian suppliers to Wal-Mart, especially in the garment industry, who also need to have the RFID technology in place.

Announcing RFID readiness at Oracle Apps World here, Mr Jon Chorley, Senior Director of Warehouse Management and Inventory, Oracle Corporation, said the RFID platform could accommodate large volumes of transactional data and improve order fulfilment shipments. The RFID-enabled warehouse management software is expected to be available in the newest version of Oracle's E-Business Suite, which is due to be released in a few months, he said. Incidentally, SAP, one of Oracle's major competitors, announced its RFID readiness recently.

The global RFID market is said to be about $3 billion by 2007, according to Wireless Data Research Group.

More than 10,000 Oracle users are attending the four-day conference this week here.

Oracle uses the annual event to launch new products and solutions, and also talk about emerging trends in technology.
